'Enlisting for 5 years in the Foreign Legion, I think I’d prefer that... But will they want to take me on as a soldier?
I myself advised Bernard to do his military service, so is it so astonishing that I should think of going to Arabia myself as a soldier?'
-Vincent Van Gogh
Vincent Van Gogh's youngest brother, Cor, served in the military. However, upon completing his military service, Cor committed suicide after having difficulty reintegrating into civilian life.
To prevent this needless tragedy from occurring to our brave military veterans, VinScént is working in collaboration with veteran suicide prevention charities.
To raise awareness of the veteran suicide crisis, we have designed Van Gogh themed aromatherapy military tags in sophisticated gold with diamond accents. Anxiety easing essential oils such as calming lavender, can be placed inside the military tag pendants.
A portion of the proceeds of each military tag purchased will be donated to veteran suicide prevention charities.
Military veterans have a 50% higher risk to commit suicide then those who have not served their country. Thousands of veterans returning from Iraq, Afghanistan and other recent conflicts are suffering silently and taking their own lives to end their mental pain.
This is due to the lack of access to suicide prevention support systems and the stigma of seeking treatment for mental health issues such as depression and PTSD. It is estimated that approximately 22 veterans a day in the US commit suicide.
'The suicide rate in the military doubled in the first decade of 2000 and has remained elevated ever since'
'The youngest group of veterans, those 18-34, have the highest suicide rate. This suggests to me that there is also something specific about the recent military experience that is contributing to suicide risk.'
-Rajeev Ramchand, behavioral scientist at the veteran support focused Bob Woodruff Foundation
'Former British Army General Lord Danatt, brands UK's suicide crisis of military veterans "the epidemic of our time.'
‘I think 21st century living has accentuated the problem. It’s the downside of social media, which can bring a lot of unwanted additional pressure on people. The tragedy is that taking your own life is a permanent solution to what should be a temporary problem.’
-Lord Dannatt
